A British court found a Bangladeshi British Umar Haque (25) guilty of plotting terrorist attacks on most well known tourist attractions in London, such as the Big Ben. The sentence will be issued within the next few weeks, and the court is not only going to take under the account the sole intentions of the terrorist, but also his ideas as to how he intended to implement his ideas.

Jihad children’s crusade

Haque is the first terrorist in Europe, who tried to create a terrorist organisation with children members, preparing them for conducting terrorist attacks in the future. For a year, starting in Autumn 2016, he was an Islam teacher in an exclusive, private Muslim school The Lighthouse of Knowledge. He also taught Islam to children in a Muslim school and a mosque on Ripple Road, which was the mosque the terrorist from the London Bridge attack attended.

According to the police, at least 250 children were exposed to his methods, and at least a hundred, between the ages of 11 to 14, were indoctrinated by him. Within a few years those kids were destined to become conscious and operational jihadists, ready to carry on attacks – a children of Jihad army.

This was a project planned well into the future.

Haque was telling children that he is a member of the Islamic State and was showing them films made by this organisation, including those depicting such acts as terrorists beheading hostages. He was threatening children, that the same will happen to them if they ever tell anybody, what he is teaching them.

He organised children ‘plays’ in which they were divided into terrorists and policemen and were taught how to plant bombs and slit throats. The children did not tell on their teacher – according to the police they were ‘paralysed with fear’. One of the pupils said: ‘Haque was teaching us terrorism, he was teaching us how to fight. If you fight for Allah, then when the Judgement Day comes and your good and bad deeds are being assessed, fighting will be recognised as a good deed. He wanted to have an army of 300 children and wanted us to be ready to fight before passing our A-level exams.’

If we, even for a moment, think of the public reaction to the fact that a terrorist was training an army of children, ready to bomb, slit throats and run people over with trucks (as they were supposed to get a drivers licence at some point), or rather lack of that public reaction, than this complete lack of public outrage seems shocking.

This exclusive school, in which Haque was teaching, was controlled by Ofsted and was declared a perfect example of a religious school promoting tolerance: ‘The children speak of their faith with pride, but they understand and accept different religions and lifestyles, even contradictory to the basic rules of their own faith’. Next evaluation though, conducted after Haque’s arrest in Autumn 2017, brought completely different results. This time Ofsted uncovered quite a few problems…

School authorities were not cooperating with the police during investigation, and did not see anything unusual or unacceptable in Haque’s work. He was not dismissed and all the more he was not audited, even after the police held his passport, when he tried to leave for Turkey in 2016 (to join the Islamic State, according to the police).

The school board issued a press statement, avoiding any responsibility for actions of the teacher-terrorist: ‘The Lighthouse of Knowledge cares for well-being and safety of their pupils and acts according to all rules of employment and training of employees, as advised by the Ministry of Education.’ How did it happen, that while caring for safety of pupils and following rules, for a whole year the school employed a terrorist, who wanted to turn the children into suicide terrorists, the school did not bother to explain.

Muslims are allowed more, because…

The whole attempt at creating an army of suicide children terrorists is shocking. However the terrorist behind it has not been condemned neither by Muslim organizations, nor by politicians. There weren’t even any shaming articles in newspapers. Sure, the media gave the information on the case, but as a casual information on planned Muslim terrorist attacks, which at this time are everyday reality in Great Britain. There is always an attack – if not carried out, then planned. Haque got treated like a potential terrorist, convicted of planning attacks, but not of debauching children.

Let’s imagine for a minute an analogical situation, in which the main character is not a Muslim, but a British born, white English person, with facists – racists views. Let’s imagine that that person was hired by a private Christian school and is teaching children to slaughter Muslims, bomb mosques and run Muslims over with cars during public prayers. That he invents plays, in which the winner is the one, who kills most Muslims, and he repeatedly confirms, that God loves those, who kill unbelievers. What would happen in British media, among politicians and clergy? A hurricane of accusations, pointing fingers at others, begging Muslims for forgiveness, dismissal of the school authorities and everybody, who had anything to do with such a school. Thousands of media articles, headlines screaming ‘How did this happen?’ and ‘Ban far right movement!’, their parlimentary, governmental and church committees.

A Muslim fanatic, who is training Muslim children to kill unbelievers and commit suicide bomb attacks, is brushed off with a shrug, both in the media and by politicians. A far right fanatic, training Christian children to kill Muslims would be a reason for nationwide self-flagellation. Why the difference?

Under this cover of tolerance for a different culture, religion and customs, lurks a hidden form of racism, contempt for dirty foreigners, who simply cannot be held to the same standards as white people.

A simple answer is, that everybody is just afraid of Muslim communities in Great Britain, and too detailed talking about shocking plans of that terrorist could upset Muslims and expose politicians and media to accusations of ‘Islamophobia’- what has repeatedly happened in the past. Surely, this is among politicians’ and media concerns. But there is also a different answer, maybe not so obvious, but in my opinion closer to the truth – though far more frightening.

Well, I do think that the public opinion in Great Britain – and actually everywhere in the West- has different standards for judging Muslims and non-Muslims. Non-Muslims can do certain things, but others are not allowed. Among those which are forbidden, some would be deemed shocking. In other words – normal people are being judged according to normal rules of civilized behaviour.

Muslims, however, are treated as a special group, which does not fall under the category of normal rules. But it’s not because the politicians and public think of them as better ones, deserving better treatment. On the contrary, I think they are considered special in terms of being exceptionally primitive and barbarian, a worse category, savages, to whom standards of civilized people do not apply and from whom we simply cannot require too much.

Of such primitives everything is to be expected, so nothing they could do is going to be shocking – this, I think, is the perception of Muslims by the British public opinion, politicians and media. Frankly speaking, quite a racist approach. Under this cover of tolerance for a different culture, religion and customs, lurks a hidden form of racism, contempt for dirty foreigners, who simply cannot be held to the same standards as white people.
